Joshua, What Cool Books @WCB Library

Where the World Ends

A spectacular book with great personification and similes throughout which made me feel seasick at one point due to the bold, wild, striking presence of the stormy sea. From the moment the book begins you can't put it down. There's always a mystery about how the boys are stranded and you want to research the period to know more. Throughout the whole book it feels like you are on the Warrior Stac yourself.

The plot is so engaging it makes you want to read it again. The fact it's based on a true story makes it feel all the more real. Every character has their own story and at the end they feel like your family. My favourite characters include Davy, Mr Farris and Quill as they all have interesting story arcs and display different emotions at every turn.

The author's descriptions of the birds and the boys' struggle to survive brought the book to life for me and made me want to visit St. Kilda.

I hope it wins the Carnegie award and that Geraldine keeps writing more cool books in the future. I enjoyed her Carnegie interview as it added another level of curiosity to the book for me. Joshua
