Annabelle's dad says she'll never find fairies in cement and weeds. But Annabelle does. She finds a tiny fairy child, Jethro Byrde, and his family, who are on their way to the Fairy Travellers' Picnic. Together, they spend a magical afternoon.

Bob Graham grew up in Australia with his mum, dad, older sister and grandmother - and a cat called Smokey. There was still a bit of bush around his suburb, where he could muck about. He could sometimes ride his scooter the entire length of the street in the gutter. There were few parked cars. Bob read Boys Own annuals from England, Hans Christian Andersen and Brothers Grimm stories from Europe. America provided the superheroes in comic book form; Superman, Captain Marvel, The Phantom (the ghost who walks) and even Popeye, who constantly rescued his girlfriend, Olive Oyl, from the clutches of Bluto (all it took was a can of spinach). His course for a lifetime of interesting reading was set.

When Annabelle finds Fairies in the garden, she is confused that her parents can't see them, but they are too grown-up. An enchanting story, with big people and little people working together. Illustrated in Bob Graham's unique style.
