Duncanrig Secondary

Head Start
My name is Mr Doig and I am the school librarian at Duncanrig Secondary School. It was my idea to get shadow the Carnegie award and so it is my responsibility to get this Group Page looking really good and more importantly, to order the books in so that we can start reading. It is also important for me to know about all the books before we begin shadowing the award and so I have been borrowing them from my local library. I had already read 'Monsters of Men' last year as it is the conclusion to the 'Chaos Walking' trilogy. My next choice was 'White Crow' by Marcus Sedgwick, largley because he is my favourite author for teenagers. I have also met him twice and he is a really nice guy. Never judge a book by its cover. sadly I did as I thought that hardback cover of 'Prisoners of the Inquisition' was really striking. I thought the book had good moments but the ending was hurried and didn't seem to work well with the rest of story. 'The Brides Farewell' by Meg Rosoff was confusing and dull. The names of the characters were awkward and I didn't enjoy reading them or indeed reading about the characters. I feel that if you don't connect with the characters then you cannot enjoy a book. I am about to begin 'The Death Defying Pepper Roux' and even though that may sound like a daft name, the blurb on the book makes it sound really interesting.
