Amber K again...
Hi everyone, so excited about tomorrow! I can't believe I'm going to be at another Carnegie day. I thought last year would be my last because of year 11 exams but fortunately exams are over and I'm coming to my fifth Carnegie day! This year I am supporting Cuckoo song. See you tomorrow everyone!

Buffalo Soldier review by Amber K
Buffalo soldier is an enlightening novel which provided me with a lot of historical information I did not already know. It was an excellent read although it was too slow- paced. 4/8

The middle of nowhere review by Amber K
I found this novel difficult to relate to and although it was a pleasant read filled with an honourable friendship the plot was somewhat limited and the writing was quite uninteresting. 3/8

Tinder review by Amber K
This novel was certainly different. I am able to admit I enjoyed it however I did feel the pictures led to a tragic lack of description. Overall it was enjoyable but a little bit confusing. 5/8

When Mr Dog bites review by Amber K
Awful! This book was extremely over-written, unrealistic, disgusting, narrow-minded and generally a disgraceful book. It lacked the insightful exploration which the theme of a child dealing with a medical condition needs. It was excessively rude to the point of which I was disgusted! I am ashamed to have read this book so unfortunately it receives 1/8.

The fastest boy in the world review by Amber K
Sadly this book gave me quite a futile read. I was thoroughly disappointed with the boring plot line and strange characters which I couldn't relate to. This book was simply plain without decoration therefore I will give it a lowly 2/8.

Cuckoo song review by Amber K
This is a must read for all! This unputdownable and truly original read is perfectly written. The ideas are strange but definitely wonderful and will remain with you long after you have sadly turned the final page. Is it too early to say that this is a winner? 8/8

Megan's Book Review
My favourite Carnegie book this year is All the truth that's in me as it is incredibly moving and suspenseful. It was hard to choose as I think this has been the best year for Carnegie ever!!! All the truth that's in me was a sad tale told by the main character Judith. She was witness to the shocking murder of her best friend and had her tongue cut out for her protection. The story keeps you constantly guessing who the murderer is and when someone begins to stalk Judith we really feel the urge to uncover the mystery behind her friend Lottie's death. The author feeds us pieces of the story in little chunks, casually giving away clues which keeps us hooked right up until the book's resolution. The whole thing is bulked up by the misery Judith feels when she finds out that Lucas, the boy she's loved since she was little is getting married. The emotions in the book are very real and thought provoking as is the issue of how the other towns folk treat Judith and look down on her. The last few chapters are almost unbearable as the tension creeps higher and higher forcing us not to put the book down as we want answers that have been missing from the beginning of the first page. If this book hadn't of been on the Carnegie award I don't think I'd have read it so I am glad I participated this year as I have a new book I am passionate about!!!!

The Wall review by Amber k
This book was a pleasant surprise. I thought it would be similar to last year's Maggot Moon when in fact it was a spectacular read that gripped you throughout. The author has captured the emotions of the main character- Joshua excellently. The only dissapointment was that it was not a very original idea and it was not particularly eye capturing or memorable. Therefore I rate this book as an 8 out of 10!

Bunker Diary review by Amber K
This book was cleverly written and excellently characterised. I enjoyed this slightly heavy-going book. The ending was quite shocking but I felt it was truthful and believable. This book made you think lots and was very philosophical. The background to the book was very interesting and different. Overall I would rate this book 8 out of 10!

The Child's elephant review by Amber K
This book has certainly grown on me. This books excels in excellence and is a deeply moving tale of two children captured by fighters who ruin their lives. The characters meet a troubled boy named Gulu and together with the help of extraordinary elephants they manage to overcome their problems. The two main characters Muka and Bat are terrific people and throughout the book you become increasingly attached to them. Rachel Campbell-Johnston is a superb author who has painted several scenes perfectly with the use of wonderful similes. The description within this book is phenomenal- you have to read it to realise how creatively Rachel has used words to create the most beautiful settings and the most moving moments between the children. Unfortunately for me this book was too slow paced and the description was so dominant that the actual events within the book were very spaced out. The reading experience was very long-winded so I found I struggled to concentrate on the plot line of the story. Therefore this book is not my winner but I do want to establish that the quality of English in this book is second to none and the tale was pleasantly heart-warming.

All the truth that's in me review by Amber K
Wow! This book was superb. It is hard to find any faults with this book. It was excellently plotted, the historical details and set were well described. The characters were believable. The whole book was written with such detail and wonderful English that it is an exhilarating read. Although this book was quite heavy-going I enjoyed it so much that this may be my winner!

Rooftoppers review by Amber K
Firstly this book was excellently written, characterised and the settings were innovative and idyllic. I found this book quite unique and really interesting as it was not like anything I have read before. The book had several things that made it special such as the use of French, the amusing scenes (especially the ways the food is stored, and also the strange but thrilling idea of running along rooftops. I think it was an excellent book and a relaxing summer read. The book was just the right length. The aim of the girl trying to find her mum made the book have significance but all the other little bit such as the references to music and the French children's lives made it a thoroughly exciting read. The ending was symbolic and well thought through. I really liked this book however it didn't quite shock me or change my emotions. It just didn't grab me and therefore I think that it should do well in the competition but does deserve to win.

Blood family review by Amber K
This book was very thoughtful and emotive. I particularly enjoyed getting to know the troubled main character. I think the book was very deeply written and fairly engaging. It was an interesting read and a wonderful story idea which was a bit different from many other books around at the moment. It opened a new window of ideas, understanding and plot ideas for me and I think the book was a great success. My criticism is that the actual plot and narrative arc was lacking in substance and actual events so the book became a sort of biography of the boy's life as oppose to an eventful story but other than that I think the book was amazing.

Ghost Hawk review by Amber K
This was a thouroughly exciting and engaging read. Although it was a bit slow it was still well-written. The characters were well-thought out and the plot line was deeply perceptive. I would recommend this to anyone. I think Susan Cooper should be very proud of this incredible novel which is verging on a classic.

Liar and Spy review by Amber K
This was an extremely simplistic book with a fairly unentertaining plot. The book was mildly entertaining but i would recommend it more for primary school readers as oppose to secondary school readers. I have to admit I was dissapointed in this book as it lacked written quality and action.

Will you read Midwinterblood? I think you should because I think you'd like it. SCI-FI LORD ZANE (Eddie, just so Catherine knows it's me)
Posted on: 26 Mar 2013

As our book club have futher discovered this year's carnigie books seem to be very quick/easy read's. One of the easy reads would probably be "the weight of water," you may think uhh this book is boring, it is all written in poems ,but accutally it is one of the best books i've ever read! I read it in about an hour so it is really quick to read. As it is written in poems it may be a bit hard to understand but if you think deeply about each word you will understand the book very easily! The book is about a young Polish girl called Kaskiena who has migrated with her Mother from Poland to England in hope to find her long lost Father who has deep secrets yet to be discovered. It is not only family problems but it is school life as well! Kaskiena is struggling with a young girl who she thought was her friend or was her friend, turns out they were just testing her or seeing how good her english was because after when the girl goes back to her mates they start bulling Kaskiena. Will life get better for Kaskenia there is two possible ways to find out? Either ask me which by the way i won't tell or read the book yourself so a big reccomend for you! Read it know from ilovecarnigie
