William Brookes School
Much Wenlock, Shropshire
Group status: Carnegie Readers from Years 7-10 meet weekly to discuss the books

Just some of the WBS Carnegie Readers 2016!

William Brookes School has shadowed the Carnegie Award since 1999; this year, 22 students plus Librarian Mrs. Herdson are reading the shortlist. 2016 is the 11th year of a Carnegie-themed quiz, held between our school and neighbouring Shropshire school, Idsall in Shifnal, and this year is Idsall's turn to host the event. We compete for the magnificent ‘Bashers’ (the engraver couldn’t spell!) Trophy, which contains the ashes of Carnegie bookmarks from previous years. We share views about the shortlisted books and answer both 'Carnegie' questions and ones about children's books in general, and choose our joint 'winner' to submit to the website. The Trophy is currently held by William Brookes and we hope to retain it after our meeting on 17 June.
