A Skinful of Shadows
In a Skinful of Shadows, we follow a young girl named Makepeace as she discovers a dark and evil secret passed down through her family for generations. It is set in the time of the English Civil war and Makepeace is struggling through her mother's harsh teachings to block out the ghosts and spirits that try to plague her in the night, viewing her as a spare vessel to live on in. At first, it's just Makepeace and her mother, trying to get by, living their lives a Puritans, but then the war breaks out and Makepeace faces a tragic event, experiencing grief for the first time; Through her grief, Makepeace encounters an angry spirit which manages to possess her. Then, whilst she is still trying to tame her angry spirit, Makepeace is swept away to her Father's side of the family where she learns their dark secret. As Makepeace tries to escape her family's wrath, she encounters more challenges that help her discover more about herself and where she came from.
Personally, I loved A Skinful of Shadows and found it a very fast paced read that kept me on my toes. It has a very interesting, quite adult concept, focusing on the idea of what happens after death. I was hooked from the first page and would absolutely recommend this read!!!
