Richard, Readers are Leaders

The Land of Neverendings

Obviously, not being the target audience for this, I did find it an uphill struggle - the twee quality of the whimsy go to me at times. I was, however, determined to finish reading it for the good of our involvement in Shadowing the Carnegie Prize for Teenage Fiction. The pace did pick up towards the latter part of the story and I did begin to appreciate it. The parallel story of the school production of Alice in Wonderland was a workable idea, too. If the book beings comfort to those who are grieving, who am I to criticise? In any event, the human imagination is a wonderful thing. I am interested in discovering younger people's reactions.
