The Poet X
The Poet X is a beautiful and heart-breaking novel, which follows the life of teenager Xiomara. Xiomara is used to being quiet (her fist do most of the talking for her); she often finds herself having to do and behave exactly as her devote catholic mother wants her to but the part of her that doesn't conform is her thoughts. X is curious and cannot follow her faith blindly; she must ask questions and she must have answers but she is not always satisfied with the ones given. Soon X has a secret: a boy. Aman is a boy from her bio class who she falls in love with except she is forbidden form doing so. As all of her thoughts and feeling pile on top of her and her head is swimming with things she whished she could say out loud about her mum, her faith, Aman, and love, she finds a vent through poetry (hence why the whole book is in verse). Finally she finds someone who listens after going to a poetry club. But this is not the kind of verse she should be reciting but she no longer wants to stay silent and decides that she will speak even if the world won't listen!
I found this book incredibly inspiring and I was up till the early morning reading it. It is truly a beautiful novel which I think we all should read.
