The House with Chicken Legs

I read 'The House with Chicken Legs' by Sophie Anderson. This book is about a girl named Marinka who lives with her grandma, Baba Yaga and her Jackdaw Jack in quite literally, a walking house. Her grandmother’s job is to guide the dead every night through the Gate and Marinka is destined to become the next Guardian, but she just wants to have a normal life. I found this book very enjoyable because I am not usually into fantasy, but this was a fun twist on the original fairytale of Baba Yaga where she was an evil witch. My favourite character was definitely the house because I found it so interesting how the author put character in an object. However, I did find that the storyline droned on a bit, maybe because the main character was mainly focused on her goal and so I found her a bit annoying. Despite that, I would really recommend this book to people who love fantasy, adventure and classic stories.
