The Land of Neverendings

The Land of the Neverendings didn’t really stand out to me. The story is based on the events following the death of Emily’s sister Holly where her old toys come alive. I couldn’t engage with the story and constantly found it hard to continue to ‘suspend my disbelief’. It was mainly about loss and coping with grief but was supposedly funny in parts though I couldn’t quite see the humour or connect with Emily despite her being the protagonist. The fact that Holly dies right at the beginning means that there is no build up and we don’t get to know her character until later on. This means it was harder for me to empathise as I didn’t understand her relationship with Emily until part of the way through.
