The Poet X

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo was a pleasurable read, with aspects we can all relate to like strict parents and happy to be there best friends. This novel is 100% based around poetry, the heart and soul of literature, the one word in English with no fixed meaning, no boundaries. One of the aspects in this book is slam poetry, or spoken poetry, something Acevedo is known for. It is safe to say this book will make you fall back in love with written and spoken poetry . Xiomara, the main character of this novel is born to a strictly religious mother and a reformed, silent father. The love in their family is shown at its highs and lows, zooming in on all those little moments that make you laugh and cry at the same time. I have heard that the audio version of this book brings out the colour of the words, spoken by Acevedo herself, she knows how to bring feeling to the very tone of her voice. A reasonably quick read, but one worth taking time on, taking a minute to realise the beauty of her words.
