The Poet X
The Poet X was my favourite book out of the shortlist for the Carnegie Award because I felt as though I could relate to X as a person as I could understand the way she was feeling and why, even if I hadn't experienced what she was going through specifically. It is a poem-novel which means it is a novel written through a series of poems that all contribute to the story. This book is about the struggles of Xiomara (see-oh-mah-ruh), a girl brought up in a strictly religious family with her twin brother. It is about her struggles in finding herself and trying to get her family (particularly her mother) to understand her. I really, really hope it wins.
