In response to government advice to close schools and libraries, CILIP announces changes to the timeline of the 2020 Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Medals.

Characters address the importance of friendships and family bonds in books across the Carnegie and Kate Greenaway 16-strong list. The continued popularity of verse is reflected across both Medals. Plus three debut offerings feature alongside previous winner Levi Pinfold.

The 2020 CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway longlists are revealed, including books that reflect empathy, reimaginings of classics and the first translated book to be longlisted for the Carnegie Medal.
